Online English Classes

Our move to online English classes is a success story that we celebrate! EACM's free ESL classes (English as a Second Language) have helped students from all over the world to develop their English skills and open up new opportunities here in Louisville. Classes are offered at multiple skill levels and can focus on grammar, conversation, or a combination of the two.

There are currently 20 students representing eight countries: Turkey, Spain, Colombia, México, Venezuela, Japan, Korea, Syria. When Covid hit, program director Paty Robles and our volunteer teachers quickly adjusted, offering online lessons via Zoom.

The teachers have quickly adapted their lessons, filling in lesson documents in real-time, and sharing those documents digitally. Classes are recorded so that students can re-watch them or catch up if they miss a class.

Paty says the students "are surprised to find that the online classes actually have some advantages over the in-person classes." Students save travel time, and students with young children can let them watch TV comfortably while the parents learn. Classes are recorded so that students can re-watch them or catch up if they miss a class.

We are so proud of the effort made by Paty and the English teachers to make this possible!

New students can join at any time. Those who are interested can email Paty Robles, director of EACM's Multicultural Community Services program. Our teaching positions are covered, but we are always in need of volunteers to substitute!
